The shop has hardly changed since it opened in the 1890s, some of the products are a bit more modern, and the shop’s got a little bigger, but we're still the same traditional hardware store.

There has been a hardware store in Fortescue Road since the 1890’s. 

This proper old fashioned hardware store has only ever had 4 owners.  It was started by Mr Orchard, who ran the shop until Mr Tiley took over in the 1950’s.  Mr Thomson took it on in the 1970’s and it is still family run.

Mr T’s daughter has been involved with the shop for 45 years, and took the reins in 2008.  She is a keen DIYer at home and has lots of expertise in painting, decorating and home maintenance. She can advise on all those tricky cleaning jobs, even the nasty ones!   She is also a keen cook and can help you find just the right cookware.

 
 

Paula Harding

Joined the business in 2016 having worked for many years with the Co-op. Paula has lots of expertise and will always know where to find what you’re looking for, and what you need for those jobs in the home or garden.

 

LOIS ROWE

Lois Rowe joined us from Jones’s at Writhlington, where she worked for many years. She can help, with lots of expertise and ideas to tackle all those tricky jobs.

Mr T’s granddaughter Bobby works on Sundays and helps in other ways behind the scenes.
